Sr. Maruerite Chiasson CNDMarch 01, 1913 - January 19, 2012
Sr. Marguerite Chiasson, CND, known in religion as Sr. St. Amand, died at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT on January 19, 2012 at the age of 98. She was born on March 1, 1913 in Caraquet, New Brunswick, to the late Anne-Marie(Blanchard) and Joseph Chiasson. As a child, she attended school with the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame in Caraquet. Sr. Marguerite pronounced her first vows as a sister of the Congregation de Notre Dame in Montreal, Canada on January 20, 1937. She began her teaching ministry in various parts of Canada. She then served in schools in Illinois and Vermont and the CND novitiate in Bourbonnais, IL. From 1969-1981 she served as the treasurer of Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island, NY. In 1981, Sr. Marguerite moved to the Congregation of Notre Dame residence in Ridgefield, CT where she served as assistant to the treasurer and the provincial secretary. Joyful and happy in disposition, true to her French heritage, she expressed a joie de vivre to all who knew and loved her. Sr. Marguerite is survived by her brother, Amand in Caraquet, and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada. She is mourned by her lifelong friends in the Congregation of Notre Dame and by the many whose lives she touched throughout her life.
